As of early July 2010 the locomotive is largely complete. The valve gear, the last major part to go together, has been successfully assembled and the locomotive moved with it in place. Having established this the pins that hold the motion together have been dispatched to a specialist for hardening. This will take about a week or so during which time the engine will be residing in the paint shop for painting through in a base black livery. The engine will run in plain black livery during trial running and commissioning. Visitors to the railway may well catch a glimpse of the engine during the initial steaming and tests ahead hauling her first passenger train.
The provisional launch schedule for the locomotive is that it will haul a special for the project contributors as part of the Welsh Highland Railway super power event on the 11th and 12th of September. The following weekend the engine will be seen in the west country for the first time at the Launceston Steam Railway. This visit reflects the support for the project from conception to completion by the LSR team. Then for the 25th and 26th of September the moment that everyone has waited for when an L&B locomotive is heard climbing the 1in50 gradient to Woody Bay station on Exmoor at the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway gala.
The locomotive is pictured below outside Boston Lodge Works.
