The 197 bus service - using an open-top bus in good weather - between the Ffestiniog Railway’s Harbour Station in Porthmadog and the RSPB Glaslyn Osprey Centre and Welsh Highland Railway’s southern terminus at Pont Croesor resumes this coming Monday. It will run on Mondays to Saturdays only, from 19th July to 31st August. (The bus link will not operate on August Bank Holiday Monday)
Times from Porthmadog are 1200, 1400 and 1630, and from Pont Croesor at 1230, 1430 and 1645. The 1430 and 1645 will, within reason, wait for late-running trains. The journey time (traffic permitting!) is ten minutes.
The fares this year will be -
Adult: Single £3.00 Return £4.50
Child: Single £1.50 Return £2.25.
Because of the shorter journey and lower fare this year, there is no further discount for passengers buying a bus ticket in conjunction with a rail ticket
There are no discounts for concessions - however, Concessionary Travel Passes issued to senior citizens and registered disabled (BY WELSH COUNCILS ONLY) are valid on this service.
Snowdon Sherpa Day Tickets are accepted for travel on the 197 service, but Red Rovers, Tocyn Taith and the various Wales Flexi passes are NOT valid. Anyone wishing to travel with one of these should use the S97 service and alight by the old Glaslyn Arms pub just outside Prenteg (about 400 yards from Pont Croesor station).
